Genealogy Today Initiates Project to Capture Military Roots
Genealogy Today (www.genealogytoday.com) announced the start of a database project involving the transcription of military service data from various sources. Annual subscriptions are available at no charge to visitors.
"I have a tremendous respect for the men and women who have served our country in the military," explained Illya D'Addezio, owner of Genealogy Today. "This database project is a tribute to everyone who has fought to preserve our freedom."
The Military Roots Project is a collection of genealogical facts from various books containing rosters, muster rolls and troop histories. Each record is accurately sourced to document which resource (and what page) the information was transcribed from.
The database launched today with several thousand names from several different books and additional sources will be uploaded on a regular basis. Visitors can quickly search for the surnames they are researching, and optionally sign up for free surname trackers to be notified when matching information is added in the future.
"New names will be added every week," added Illya. "Registering for the free surname trackers will ensure that you will now as soon as any possible ancestors/cousins are transcribed."
A short registration is required for free access to this database.
