Connecting the Past to Understand Your Heritage

Genealogy Today (www.genealogytoday.com) announced the launch of a new service for establishing ancestral links between friends and family called Roots Connect. The purpose of Roots Connect is to reunite researchers with old schoolmates, co-workers, military buddies, or anyone they're ancestors worked with at local church or other organizations.

"For many of us, our parents or grandparents have passed away and finding living friends of theirs could prove to be a valuable resource," explained Illya D'Addezio, owner of Genealogy Today. "Roots Connect is intended to help our visitors locate other researchers through common links between their relatives. This is a different concept than the numerous personal networking services that exist today."

Roots Connect enables visitors to easily locate and connect with people from every stage of their ancestor's lives. By first registering and then choosing the locations and organizations they have come across in their research, members make initial contact using blind email.

"I'm very excited about this addition to our suite of 'Roots' services," added Illya. "It's very much in line with our mission of offering unique tools to help genealogists leverage the unlimited potential of the Internet. Our visitors are already 'connecting' with others using the existing 'Roots' databases, now they can try a totally different approach to locating clues about their ancestors."

An upcoming enhancement to the service will allow members to correlate their profiles with a historical timeline of significant events as part of a planned Family History Documentary Center. The new center will help individuals begin the process of organizing the events that shaped their lives into an outline for their documented life story.
